Kumo Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar



I am always on the lookout for new restaurants to try, so when I saw Kumo Japanese Steakhouse as I was driving down University Parkway, I knew I had to give it a try.  The inside of Kumo is surprisingly well decorated and a lot larger in size than I expected. They have a bar as well as a sushi bar and in the back room is the typical Japanese Steakhouse tables.  While the show of onion volcanoes, eggs being thrown up towards the sky and cracked are pretty standard in these types of places, they do have a larger selection of choices to serve up on the teppan grills.  The thing that I liked about Kumo was the creativity in their sushi.  Typically, sushi is just an "extra item to have" at Japanese Steakhouses' however, Kumo has spent a little more time thinking about their sushi menu.  While most of the "special rolls" are deep fried (not my cup of tea) there is one roll that really stands out, the jalapeno roll.  The jalapeno rolls is tuna, salmon, apple and avocado on the inside with yellowtail and jalapeno on top.  Besides the fact that the fish was very fresh on every roll I had, what makes the jalapeno roll stand out to me was the apple inside.  I have been to many many sushi restaurants and believe it or not, I have never had apple in any sushi roll before and I have to say I loved it.  So if you or your friends and family are looking for an entertaining meal with above average sushi check out Kumo.
